Instructor FAQs
I think adult education might be a good fit for me. What qualities are important to have?
- A desire to encourage and support learning and promote important life skills
- Comfortable and confident presenting to adults
- Enthusiasm, patience, leadership and excellent time management skills
- Be personable, outgoing and have a dynamic personality (sense of humor is also a great asset!)
- Be willing and excited to meet new people and share your expertise
How do I become a certified first aid & CPR instructor?
- Submit your resume and cover letter to firstaid@dev.apexsolutions.ca
- Observe/participate in an Apex Intermediate (Standard) First Aid Level C, 2-day course (pre-requisite).
- Attend a 2-day Instructor Orientation Training (IOT) session where you will receive an instructor training binder, supplies and an overview of how to teach our lesson plans. (Cost = $600)
- Minimum of one co-teach (2 days) required (sometimes two) to be completed at your location within 3 months of the IOT session.
I’m already a certified first aid & CPR instructor with another program, but I’d like to switch to teaching Apex courses. Do you have a process for this?
- Great call! We offer a Transfer Instructor Program that includes the steps above, but at a reduced cost. (Cost = $450)
Are there any ongoing costs for instructors?
- Once certified, you will need to keep your instructor up-to-date by re-certifying every 3 years. (Cost = $50 (+ travel fees, if relevant))
- You must purchase our student packages for each student that you teach; this cost is very reasonable and varies according to the course taught.
Is there a minimum number of courses I need to teach to keep up my certification?
- You must teach a minimum of 2 IFA (SFA) courses per year over a 3 year time frame to stay current.
How busy can I expect to be?
- As busy as you would like to be. It is up to you how you would like to grow your business!
Will employers recognize Apex courses as “valid” industry courses?
- Our programs are based on the latest industry standards, are medically-reviewed and undergo a rigorous regulatory approval process by government agencies.
